The Weeping Woman

horror / drama

Tonio was born and raised in East Los Angeles. After his father passed away, his life took a turn for the worst. It wasn't long before he was getting in trouble with the law. His mother, not knowing what to do with him, decides to send him away for a while to get away from the city life. She feared losing him to the street gangs like so many others had. She sends him to spend some time with his Grandfather Miguel, on a ranch  in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

From the moment he arrives, his Grandfather puts him to work. On hot summer nights, children gather around to listen to his grandfather and some of his oldest friends telling stories of Aztec warriors and great Spanish conquerors, stories of flaming balls of fire that were believed to be witches flying across the night skies. Stories of medicine women who could heal anyone with their magic herbs and other mystical folklore. The stories would teach the children to respect and obey their parents.

The children's favorite stories were those of La Llorona, a woman who drowned her children in a fit of anger.   A woman who was cursed and punished, becoming a ghost with a restless spirit eternally searching for her lost children's souls. To this day, some say, if you listen at night you can still hear her haunting cries that seem to come from the nearby rivers and ditches. Others talk of their encounters with her, and how they barely escaped with their lives. Some stories  about her are sad and others are amusing. Yet, others are strange, but most are very scary.

After a while, Tonio begins to get restless, quickly reverting back to his old ways. One night, after a long day of drinking, he encounters La Llorona for the first time. Tonio is driving down the road in an old pick up truck, when she suddenly appears right in  front of him. He swerves, trying to miss her, but is too late. As the truck runs over her, she lets out a horrifying scream, and then quickly vanishes into thin air. It was not much of an encounter, but only a warning of what was yet to come. His next encounter with her is even more terrifying then he could imagine. It would change the way he  would live his life for ever.
